So I was planning to go see my mentor and dear friend, Fr. Jovian Lang, OFM, a week ago today. Planned this stop on my way to Indianapolis to vist Maggie and Dave for Maggie's birthday. But Thursday night I got a call that Fr. Jovian had died. A call confirmed that information. So, Fr. Jovian Lang, OFM died on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009. He was 90 years old and had been failing for some time, physically and mentally. The last time I saw him I don't think he really recognized me. It is so hard to lose that last person who knew you when. He was a great man and a great influence on my life. Requiescat in pace, dear Padre. Pray for all of us!
While visiting with Maggie, on her birthday, we went for a walk on the Monon Trail. Maggie said it was 9 miles total; Dave said 10. I think I will believe Dave! We took my granddogs with us: Thomas and Penny. Quite fun to walk along a mostly wooded trail with two bird dogs! Well, bird and squirrel dogs. It was a beautiful day and the trail was busy: walkers and runners and bicyclists - oh my! Good training for the camino.
Hmm! Now Fr. Jovian can go with us on the camino in spirit which he could not have done in the body. But I will miss him.

and yet another interference
So I got back to the training, though not the blogging after the break. On Thursday, Sep 17 Rosanne and I walked almost 4 miles. Then I went to cardio class. On Friday we did 7.27 kilometers.
Took the weekend off to go to Centralia for Hope's Purity Promise ceremony.
On Monday after Kiwanis meeting I noticed that my left ankle and leg were swollen. It kept getting worse so I called Jamie and she took me to the ER. Dr. diagnosed cellulitis but ordered an ultrasound to be sure there was no blood clot. No blood clot. Scrip for antibiotics. It is much better now but I haven't walked all week again. Sigh!

9-15-09 Oops@ Just remembered, again, that this is Jonni's birthday and I didn't send a card or call her. Bad sister! Haven't blogged for a whikle or walked either. Too many other things happening. Jamie closed on her house on Tuesday, started moving in. Found that the carpets were infested with fleas on Saturday! Bombed (for fleas only) on Sunday. Hopefully that took care of all the fleas and then the dog and the cat can join her there.
Anyway, I got two books last week on the Portuguese route of the camino. Looks really interesting!.
Haven't walked for several day but did do cardio kick boxing class tonight and then tai chi. Really good workout. And I keep up pretty well for a couch potato.
Sent Dave a copy of the official guidebook for the camino Portugues from the Confraternity of St. James. Ordered the guidebooks from England.
Stay tuned for pix borrowed from the Internet. To be followed next year by my own pix!

8-18-09 Tai Chi class with some Yoga
8-19-09 105 miles in 30 minutes at Riverview Park with a samll backpack
8-20-09 only a mile, diden't keep track of time - small pack
8-21-09 1.5 miles again after working at the theatre with Cheryl
8-22-09 no walking
8-23-09 2 miles in 40 minutes
8-24-09 1 mile after Kiwanis meeting - 20 minutes because I ran out of daylight
8-25-09 Tai Chi
8-26-09 Rosanne Roy and I did 2 miles for 40 minutes
8-26-09 at Sesquicentennial Building in Palmyra with Jonni and Rosann. 3 miles 1 hour
8-31-09 today Rosanne and I started at Java Jive walked north on Main to the old River Road to the end of that road then back to the access to Soap Hollow Trail; up the trail to Shelter 3, around the loop at the overlook there and back to Java Jive. Good walk! Not sure of distance, can't drive it and forgot my pedomoter.

Shirley MacLaine
Just finished her book about walking the camino, called THE CAMINO. Very interesting. Lots of great thoughts. She did the long camino from France and did it in 30 days. Also reading WALK IN A RELAXED MANNER by Joyce Rupp. It is quite inspiring. She was 60 when she did the camino with a friend who was 69! Gives me hope.
Jonni, Rosann and I walked in the Sesquicentennial Building in Palmyra on Thursday night because it was storming. 17 laps = 1mile. Jonni did 21 laps (she is just starting). Rosann and I did 36 laps, just over 2 miles. Then we walked one of the short loops outside in the Park. Total of 3 miles in a little over an hour.
Friday Rosann and I walked in Grandview Cemetery. More hills. Didn't walk as long or as far. Mostly because I was sore from Thursday.
Saturday. I didn't walk today. The weather was good so I painted fence after a trip to Palmyra to recycle glass and have coffee/tea with Jonni. The outside of the fence is finished, except for about six slats - ran out of daylight. Message to the universe: lattice work fencing its very tedious to paint! Will finish last little bit tomorrow - then the inside will need to be done.

Gooodbye, Teddy
Can't believe that the last Kennedy brother is gone. How very ironic that it was cancer in his brain! Both Jack and Bobby were shot in the head. Came home from my walk and turned on TV while fixing and eating supper - all Kennedy all night on MSNBC so I am immersed in it. And the tears come as they did all those years ago when a college freshman lost "her" president. And again in 1968 when I woke up to the news that Bobby had been shot IN THE HEAD! Requiescat in pace, Teddy.
keeping on
Walked longer tonight - nearly an hour. With Rosann Roy who inspired me to go further, longer! Tomorrow she and I will walk with Jonni in Palmyra.
